Used in clinics and medical offices, Microcurrent is a low level current that is used to tone and firm the skin.
Known mostly for its anti-ageing abilities, it works by mimicking the body's natural current and can provide both instant and long-term anti-ageing results if used correctly.
Its most common use is to tone the face, however Microcurrent can also be found in devices that tone the body. Microcurrent was invented in the 1980’s as a ‘muscle stimulator’.
They are used to treat Bell’s Palsy, a condition that causes temporary weakness and sagging within the skin due to nerve-paralysis.
What is a Microcurrent facial?
A Microcurrent facial is often referred to as a ‘natural’ facelift, as the treatment is non-invasive and completely painless. The treatment works by emitting extremely low-levels of electrical currents (hence the name ‘micro’ current).
The microcurrents work on a cellular level to repair damaged skin and accelerate the production of the skin ‘youthful’ cells, known as Collagen and Elastin. It’s often referred to as ‘a workout for the face’, as it creates a toning and sculpting effect by breaking down the skin cells within your face and allowing them to grow back stronger.
It’s very similar to the effect that exercise has on the body, it breaks down the muscle tissue allowing it to grow back larger and more defined.
Can I recreate a Microcurrent facial at home?
Yes. There are many effective toning Microcurrent facial devices that you can use at home.
Most famously, is the brand NuFACE, who have created a number of Microcurrent devices for both the face and the body.
Created by Aesthetician Carol Cole and her daughters, she created the brand after working on many clients who had recurring concerns; sagging eyelids, loss of contour and simply looking “tired”.
The devices have been clinically proven to help firm, tone and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
