What is Lymphatic Drainage? And what can it do for the skin?

What is Lymphatic Drainage?

Lymphatic drainage is a form of massage that increases the flow of the ‘Lymph’ system and helps the body to ‘naturally’ rid its toxins.

First developed in France in the 1930s, it is one of the most tried and tested methods of recharging your skin from the inside out.

What can Lymphatic Drainage do to the skin?

Your Lymphatic system is a key part of your immune system, it keeps your body healthy by riding it of waste and toxins.

When this system isn’t working effectively, toxins can build up in the body and this can show in your skin in the form of a puffier face, dark circles and breakouts.

Whilst it might not be the sexiest-sounding treatment, a Lymphatic Drainage massage or facial is popular treatment for A-listers to book before a big event.

Can you do Lymphatic Drainage at home?

Whilst a professional Lymphatic Drainage massage would usually be carried out in a salon, there are devices that you can use at home to aid the process.

Wellbox [S] is one of the most popular in-salon devices which can aid Lymphatic Drainage, treating both the face and the body.

The device uses Endermologie technology which “detoxifies” the fat cells by removing fatty acids and toxins from the fat cells, causing them to shrink. As Endermologie also stimulates lymphatic drainage, once these fatty acids and toxins are removed from the cell, they enter your lymphatic system and are excreted from your body.

Other devices that can aid Lymphatic Drainage are the Hayo’u Beauty Restorer Face Massage Tool and Talika Legs Tonic.

Inspired by the age-old Chinese technique of Gua Sha, the Hayo’u Face Massage Tool aids Lymphatic Drainage by using a manual scraping massage to drain excess water and increase lymph flow. Whilst the Talika Legs Tonic uses electrical muscle stimulation to improve blood flow and encourage Lymphatic Drainage in the lower legs.

    Our product expert says…

Devices which help encourage lymphatic drainage are especially helpful for those suffering from eye bags and puffiness.
