If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. An ongoing issue across many industries, the beauty market continues to be plagued by the increase of fake beauty devices, misleading shoppers to buy lower priced counterfeit products that look like the real deal at a glance.
CURRENTBODY is proud to be an official UK distributor of Clarisonic devices for 6 years, and following a shipment of fake Clarisonic devices to a Scottish port with plans for selling the product in the UK, our Co-Founder, Laurence Newman, spoke to BBC Ones’s Fake Britain about this problem and how to know if your Clarisonic is real.
Whether you are buying a Clarisonic device for yourself or as a gift, Laurence and our team have got some tips on how to spot the difference between a real Clarisonic and a fake Clarisonic.
Did you buy from an authorised Clarisonic retailer?
If you bought your device or brushes from CURRENTBODY, or any authorised Clarisonic retailer, we can assure you that your product is real and authentic.
How does the packaging look?
Authentic Clarisonic packaging comes with a flap on the front of the box which opens from the side, then a further opening on the inside of the box to reveal the device. Fake Clarisonics often have the first outer flap, but the actual box opens from the top.
What about the logos?
If you have a Mia 2 device, the logo on the back should feature an aligned A and 2. If the alignment of the lettering is off, sadly your Clarisonic device may be fake.
How does it feel and sound?
Genuine Clarisonic devices are distinctly heavier than its fake counterpart, and its sound should always be a high-pitched, consistent tone. Also, all Clarisonic buttons should be smooth, neat, and easy to press. If your buttons look a little untidy or they're hard to press, you could be using a fake device.
Have you checked your brush heads?
Real Clarisonic brush heads have “Clarisonic” imprinted on the plastic cover that comes as standard with all brush heads, whereas fake Clarisonic brush caps are plain. Previously, genuine Clarisonic brushes featured a small clock imprint on the inside on the brush. However, they have stopped printing this feature in recent batches so don’t worry if yours is missing the clock.
Clarisonic has been fine-tuning their technology since 2001 to ensure you get the best results with every handmade model. Fake devices can be a tempting purchase with their low prices. However, the results will be mediocre, and its lifespan will be short lived so take it from us, it's not worth the risk.
