Urban Veda: How to care for mature skin naturally

The Ancient Indian holistic medicine practice, Ayurveda, teaches the importance of moving in cycles and embracing change. The practice explores how true wellness depends on finding the balance between mind, body and spirit.

This healing system is built upon 3 different energies (known as doshas), these are Vata, Pitta and Kapha. It's believed that everyone is made up of a unique combination of these, which represent everything about us including personality traits, physical appearance, health and skin type.

Urban Veda knows that everyone's skin is unique and that when it comes to skincare, one size doesn't fit all. They embrace the notion of 'letting go' and change, and know the true importance of finding balance. They believe in caring for ageing skin naturally, taking a 'pro-ageing' approach rather than an anti-ageing one. Their ethos is built around changing your mindset towards the ageing process, so that you can begin to look at what your skin really needs at this time in your life.

With this in mind, they decided to investigate how the skin fluctuates when triggered by hormonal imbalances. They found that when left to its natural devices, the skin finds its own way, and therefore discovered the importance of relinquishing control.

Urban Veda focus on the doshas, aligning their skincare range to a specific one. But with one exception, their Reviving Range - this is what they call the 'Tri-doshic'. The Reviving Range is unique in its approach to skincare, as it harnesses the importance of not falling into the 'one size fits all' category.

A key ingredient in their Reviving Range is Rosehip, a natural source of vitamin A which encourages cell renewal. This active is great for age and sun spots as it helps to even out your skin tone.

Next is Shatavari, which becomes particularly powerful within the Facial Oil formulation due to its effectiveness as an Ayurvedic active, which fully absorbs into the skin. Shatavari not only cools internally, and therefore is a great supplement to take whilst suffering from hot flushes, but also balances and regulates the oestrogen level. Alongside this, Shatavari has wonderful moisturising properties, making it perfect for Vata type (dry skin) or Pitta type (sensitive skin).

Lastly is Arjuna, which restores skin's elasticity and the natural sebum levels of perimenopausal skin, whilst reinforcing skin barrier performance. This sacred Indian ingredient breathes life back into the skin and features heavily in their Tri-doshic Reviving Range.

Not only can the range do wonders for your complexion, but it can also alleviate stress, anxiety and hot headedness when applied to the wrists and temples.

So, to truly care for our skin naturally, acknowledges that by trying to alter nature, pause time and run away from change, we do ourselves a disservice and risk losing the chance of leading a full and happy life.
