What is Collagen?
Collagen is a ‘structural protein’ that is found in all tissues within the body, such as the bones, muscles, tendons, blood vessels and most importantly, the skin.
As an essential protein, the purpose of collagen is to give your body shape, bulk and support.
The three main types are:
Type 1 can be found in the skin and is evident within you skin, hair, nails, organs and ligaments.
Type 2 is usually found in cartilage and tendons, helping to maintain healthy joints.
Type 3 helps to keep connective tissue such as bones, tendons and connective tissues healthy.
What does Collagen do to the skin?
In the skin, Collagen provides elasticity, replaces dead skin cells and provides firmness.
It has captivated the beauty scene as ‘the fountain of youthful skin’ and accelerating its production within the body can play a key role in how ‘well’ or ‘young’ the skin looks.
Unfortunately, our body’s ability to produce collagen slows down after the age of 25, which can result in fine lines, wrinkles, lack firmness or suppleness of the skin.
From easy to take supplements and skincare products to effective technologies found in a whole host of home use devices, the good news is that there are things we can do to accelerate collagen production within the skin.
What are the best technologies to boost Collagen production?
There are a number of technologies that can accelerate the production of collagen, but the most commonly used are Radio Frequency and LED Light Therapy.
Radio Frequency works by using RF energy to heat the skin and stimulate the subdermal layers to accelerate collagen production.
It works by ‘tricking’ the brain into thinking there has been an injury, creating a ‘healing’ like response. This increases the production of Collagen and Elastin, resulting in tighter, healthier and lifted skin.
There are a number of devices that use Radio Frequency, some of the most popular include TriPollar STOP and STOP V, TriPollar POSE, Silk’n Facetite and Sensica Sensilift.
LED Light Therapy
Gentle and painless, LED Light Therapy comes in a number of colours. Often combined into one device, each of the colours has a different benefit depending on when you’re looking to treat.
Red LED Light is known for speeding up collagen production and enhancing cell repair, it works by stimulating the ‘mitochondria’ or the ‘power generators’ in the cells so they function optimally.
Some of the most popular devices that use LED Light Therapy include LightStim for Wrinkles, Trophy Skin Rejuvalite MD Anti-Ageing Lamp and the GloPRO Microneedling Regeneration Tool.
Home use devices which accelerate collagen production are loved by our customers for the way in which they reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, tighten, tone and leave the skin looking healthier and younger.
