What is IPL?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light technology. It works by sending pulses of light into the skin, penetrating the hair follicles. After absorbing the light, the hair goes into resting phase and gradually grows back less.

How to use

Braun Silk-Expert Pro 5 PL5124 IPL comes enabled with two modes, gliding and stamp, to give you a truly tailored treatment. The gliding mode triggers more flashes for the fastest treatment, ideal for larger areas, such as your legs which can both be treated in five minutes. The stamp mode provides a more precise treatment suitable for smaller and sensitive areas. Before using the device, you should shave the desired treatment area. Use the device once per week for the first 4-12 weeks. Then continue to IPL every 1-2 months or when needed.

WHO CAN USE THIS DEVICE?

The device is suitable for those with skin tones I-V on the Fitzpatrick Scale. Do not use the device on the darkest skin types, as this may cause discomfort or damage to the skin.

Due to the reduced melanin in the hairs, this device is unsuitable for use on light blonde, red, grey and white hair.

Do not use Braun Silk-Expert Pro 5 if any of the following apply to you:

  • Do not use Braun Silk-Expert Pro 5 on scalp, eyebrows or anywhere near or around the eyes. Use in these areas may permanently damage your eyes.
  • Do not use Braun Silk-Expert Pro 5 on red, very blonde, grey or white hair. The device is not effective on these hair colours.
  • Do not use Braun Silk-Expert Pro 5 on nipples or genitals. These areas may have a darker skin colour and/or greater hair density and using the device in these areas may cause discomfort/pain or injure your skin.
  • Do not use Braun Silk-Expert Pro 5 on dark brown or black spots such as freckles, birthmarks, moles or warts in the treatment area.
  • Do not use Braun Silk-Expert Pro 5 pn a tattoo or permanent makeup in the treatment area.
  • Do not use Braun Silk-Expert Pro 5 on a male beard or facial hair.
  • Do not look directly into the glass filter or attempt to activate the device toward the eyes. To protect the safety of your eyes and those of individuals nearby, the device will only activate when both skin tone sensors are placed against the skin. If at any time the device activates when both sensors are not in contact with the skin, stop use immediately and contact your retailer.
  • Do not use Braun Silk-Expert Pro 5 more than once a week on the same area. This will not speed up the results and may increase the chances of injury to your skin.
  • Do not treat on active eczema, psoriasis, lesions, open wounds or infections (cold sores), abnormal skin conditions caused by systemic or metabolic diseases (diabetes for example).
  • Do not use Braun Silk-Expert Pro 5 a treatment area that has a history of herpes outbreaks.
  • Do not use Braun Silk-Expert Pro 5 if you are pregnant or nursing.
  • Do not use Braun Silk-Expert Pro 5 while bathing or if it becomes damp or wet.
  • Do not attempt to open or repair your Braun Silk-Expert Pro 5 device.

    Effective

    I decided to try out an IPL device as almost every other hair removal method irritates my skin in some way. My only regret is that I never bought this sooner!

    There is absolutely no pain. Even on the highest strength in the most sensitive of spots, you will at most feel a little burst of heat. I like that it comes with a little carry case, and two different sized heads.

    I am quite fair-skinned with dark hair, so an ideal candidate for IPL. Within the first couple of sessions I saw an immediate difference. Now I am almost at the end of the treatment plan - I have almost no hair growth on my armpits or legs, and a very significant decrease on hair growth on my bikini line.

    Pleasantly surprised

    I’ve been using this for 5 weeks as per the instructions, it actually seems to be working, it’s slowed the hair growth dramatically, and in some areas it seems to have completely stopped!!! I have fair skin and dark hair. I wish I had done this years ago. I find it easy to use, the bright flashes do irritate my migraine headaches but it’s worth the results!
